on How do I ask for reassurance when I have an anxious attachment style?
The goal isn't to get better at asking for reassurance — it's to gradually need it less. But while you do: be direct, specific, and brief. 'I'm feeling insecure. Can you tell me you care?'

on How do I know if my relationship is holding me back?
That last line landed. I'm going to sit with it.

on What are some effective ways to improve self-esteem through psychology?
Compliments bounced off until I had even one piece of evidence I respected in myself.

Repair after a fight told me more about the relationship than the fight itself.

on What are some good discussion questions for an anxiety and depression support group?
You don't owe skeptics a TED talk about your brain.

on What actually helped your mental health that you didn't expect?
Getting a dog. Sounds cliché but it gave me a reason to get up every morning.

on How can I deal with intense feelings of anguish, anxiety, fear, or shame?
Anxiety feels like chronic inadequacy. You go through life just like everyone else, but you can't help but feel like something about your experience is different from everyone else. Stop unfairly comparing yourself to others and I promise that feeling will fade.

on How do I build self-esteem when everything in my life feels like proof that I'm not good enough?
Yeah. The body gets there before the story does.

on What's it like to have an anxious-attachment style?
Every tiny thing becomes a possible indicator your partner doesn't love you. If they don't respond quickly to a message, they are avoiding you. If they don't hug you, they're pulling away.

I needed this today more than I want to admit.

on Why do I feel depressed so often?
Came here to say something similar and you said it better.

on How do you heal PTSD triggers without going to therapy?
Seven steps: acknowledge and name the trauma; don't minimize it; recognize the ongoing impact; seek social support; be mindful of triggers; take care of your body; and practice self-compassion consistently.

on I am depressed and I don't know how to come out of it. What do I do?
The most important part of coming out of depression is to DO SOMETHING. Most people cease to do anything at all. They deem nothing worthy of their time. With this they run into deeper spirals.

on Is BPD something you're born with or does it develop from trauma?
Both. There's a genetic predisposition, but trauma — especially in childhood — is almost always the trigger.

on Does anyone else become obsessed with waiting for a text when they have anxious attachment?
The urge to 'get ahead of the abandonment' is so sneaky. Awareness helps; it doesn't erase it overnight.

on How do you explain your mental illness to someone who doesn't believe in it?
This is exactly it. Thank you for putting it into words.

on What is the best thing to do when you feel anxious — how do I stop it quickly?
Gratitude and mindfulness apps completely reset my mind during heavy attacks.

on How do people actually get better? I've been depressed for years.
Slowly. Painfully slowly. One thing starts working and then you build on it.

on I think I'm depressed, but I still feel happy occasionally. What is wrong with me?
I thought I had to feel motivated first. Turns out I had to move a little, then the feeling followed later.
c/trauma·9 points·5mo ago
on Can you heal from trauma without going to therapy?
Yes, but it's slower and harder. Therapy gives you a co-regulator — your nervous system needs another person to heal with.
