Why does love feel like something I have to earn again every day?
She kissed me goodbye at the door this morning, totally normal, and by the time I got to the elevator I was already reviewing my last 24 hours for mistakes. Did I laugh too loud at dinner. Did I forget to ask about her presentation. I opened our chat in the lobby to see if the tone still looked warm. It's like affection expires overnight and I clock in again. If she's quiet on the train home I assume I didn't do enough. I even stared at the leftover Thai in the fridge last night like the containers were proof we'd been okay. I don't want a scoreboard in my own kitchen. I still keep one. Anyone else feel like love is a daily performance review, and what actually loosened that without a big speech?

Elevator review is me. I started asking one question about her day and then I stop the audit. Still peek at the chat in the lobby. Less of a report card.

Leftover Thai as evidence is painfully me. I told her "I will look for proof you still like me in dumb places." She said she still likes me. I needed it in writing once. Now I reread that text instead of the containers.

Do you actually forget to ask about her presentation or is the review finding faults that aren't there? Mine were almost never there.

I put a note on my badge lanyard: "morning kiss still counts." Stupid. I see it when I get to the elevator.

The lobby chat-check after a normal goodbye wrecks me too. I leave the phone in my bag until the train.
