Why do I pick a small fight on Sunday night so Monday has a reason if they go quiet?
Sunday around 8 we were fine. Show on, leftover noodles, his foot against mine. Then I heard myself start in about how he never puts the mail in the tray. He looked confused. I doubled down. By 8:40 we were both annoyed and I had this awful relief, like Monday morning had a story if he was short with me. If he went quiet at work I could tell myself it was the mail, not that I am too much. I hate that I manufacture a reason. I apologized about the mail. I did not tell him the real reason. How do you sit through a good Sunday without knocking it over so the week cannot surprise you?

I do this before trips. Pick a dumb fight so if they pull away I can point at the fight. Seeing you name it made my stomach drop.

I tell him 'I am about to knock this over' when I feel the urge. Half the time he laughs. Half the time we still argue about mail. Better than the secret version.

Is it always Sunday night, or any time things have been easy for more than a day?

I put the mail in the tray myself and leave the room for five minutes. Not noble. Stops my mouth from starting the trial.
