Why do I keep choosing rooms that feel familiar even when I know they hurt?
I almost said yes to a roommate listing that felt like home in a way I didn't like. The photos were fine. The messages were a little sharp, a little "don't be sensitive." And something in me leaned in, like oh, I know this weather. I caught it on the walk home. Sat on my stoop and thought about how many times I've picked the thing that hurts in a familiar shape instead of the quieter option that felt blank. I'm not looking for a name for my taste in rooms. I want to know how you stop walking toward the old pattern when the new one feels suspiciously easy, like a trick. Did you ever back out of something that felt like your kind of chaos and then feel lost for a while because familiar-hurtful at least made sense?

I backed out of a job that interviewed like that. "Don't be sensitive" energy in the second call. I felt lost for weeks because the boring offer felt fake. It wasn't fake. I was just unused to not bracing.

The stoop catch is good. I used to say yes before I got home. Sitting down before you reply might be the whole skill.

Did you already tour the place, or just messages? Messages-only is sneakier for me. I can project a whole house onto three dry texts.
