I feel guilty the minute things are actually calm. Anyone else distrust a quiet Tuesday?
Tuesday morning, nothing was wrong. Coffee was fine. Inbox was boring. My roommate left for work and the apartment was quiet in a good way. And I felt guilty. Like I'd forgotten to watch for something. I actually looked for a problem. Rechecked a bill I'd already paid. Reread a text from my sister that was just a photo of her dog. The calm felt like I was getting away with something, or like the quiet was the part before a drop. I used to think peace would feel like relief. Lately it feels like I skipped a shift. I'm not looking for danger on purpose. My brain just doesn't clock out. Does anyone else distrust a good morning? What do you do with the guilt when nothing happened and you still feel like you should be on duty?

The dog photo reread is so specific. I do that with "ok" texts. If it's too easy I assume I missed the real meaning. Quiet Tuesdays still feel like I forgot an exam.

I name one boring thing that's true out loud. Like "the bill is paid." Out loud, in the kitchen. Sounds silly. Stops me from opening the banking app for the fourth time some mornings.

Do you feel the guilt in your stomach or more like restlessness, like you should be cleaning? Mine is restlessness. I start wiping counters that are already clean.

Skipped a shift is exactly it. I had to learn that a boring inbox is allowed. Still don't love it. Still sit with the coffee and wait for the other shoe, then drink it anyway.
