Why do the dishes bother me more than the big stuff we keep postponing?
We still haven't talked about whether we're moving in together. That's been sitting since spring. Her brother was rude to me at Easter and we never landed it. I can live with those, apparently. What I cannot live with is the pan in the sink at 11pm with oil in it, soaking for later, which means I find it in the morning. I heard myself last night, standing there with a sponge, more angry about the pan than I've been about the apartment question. That feels backwards. She came in and said it's just a pan. It is. It's also the third night this week, and the pan is something I can point at, unlike are we building a life. I washed it. Still mad in bed. She was already asleep. I don't want to be the guy who blows up a relationship over dishes, but I also don't want to swallow the little stuff because the big stuff is too big. Is the pan the real fight, or is it just the only fight I know how to start?

the pan with oil soaking for later is never later. i've been angrier at a pan than at a moving conversation too. the pan has a handle. are we building a life doesn't.

we started washing the pan before bed as a two-minute thing, no speech. the big talk still sat. at least i wasn't going to sleep mad at a sponge. small, not a personality transplant.

easter brother thing still open, apartment talk still open, and the sink is where you can actually point. that's not backwards. that's the only door that's unlocked at 11pm.

did she know the pan was standing in for the spring conversation, or does she still think you're a guy who loves dishes? might matter before the next 11pm sponge session.
