Why am I organized in some parts of life and a complete mess in others?
My work calendar is color-coded. Tasks have due dates. I can find a file from March in under a minute. Then I come home and there's a laundry pile by the dresser that's been there for three weeks, mail on the counter, and a sink that I keep meaning to do after one more episode. People at the office would not believe the bedroom. People who've seen the bedroom would not believe I run a project tracker. I used to think I'd grow out of the split. I'm 34. The split is still there. It's not that I don't care about home. I care in bursts. I'll deep-clean on a Sunday and then let it slide until I can't see the desk. Work has other people waiting, so the system holds. Home only has me waiting, and I negotiate with myself. Anyone else live in two different brains like this? I don't need a lecture about habits. I want to know if this is a personality thing or if I just respect my job more than my floor.

Color-coded calendar, mystery pile by the bed. I thought that was just me being a hypocrite.

I put a laundry basket in the doorway so I trip on it. Ugly solution. The pile moves now.

If work vanished for a month, would the bedroom get better, or would you just invent a new tracker and ignore the socks?
