Why does a three-day weekend make going back on Tuesday feel like starting over?
Monday was a holiday. I slept in. I made actual eggs. I even went for a walk that was not to a station. Tuesday at 7:05 my alarm felt like a different country. In the standup I had to remember what the project was, like I had been gone a month. I was gone one extra day. I spilled coffee on the only clean shirt and felt unreasonably betrayed. People at work were cheerful about the long weekend. I felt like I had lost the plot of being a person who does weeks. How do you re-enter without the extra day turning into a hangover?

I do a tiny Sunday-style reset on the holiday night. Lay out clothes, glance at the calendar. Kills the magic a bit. Tuesday hurts less.

I keep the last morning of the break boring on purpose. No big plans. Then Tuesday is not a cliff.

Is it worse after holidays, or also after a random Friday off?

I block the first 30 minutes of Tuesday for 'remember the job' and do not schedule anything sharp. My brain is still in eggs.
