Why do Sunday evenings wreck me even though I genuinely like my job during the week?
I like my job. That is what is confusing. The people are decent, the work is not humiliating, I even laughed on Friday. And still, Sunday at about 4:30, while the pasta water is boiling, my stomach drops. I start mentally walking through Monday's inbox as if it is a test I have not revised for. By 8 I am picking a fight with the washing up and pretending it is about the washing up. Saturday is fine. Sunday morning is mostly fine. It is the afternoon tilt. I have tried doing a Sunday tidy and it just became another chore. I have tried going to bed earlier. I still wake up at 2am thinking about a meeting that is not even tense. If you like the job and still get this, what actually takes the edge off Sunday, not Monday?

4:30 pasta water is my hour too. I go out for a short walk before cooking, even around the block, so Monday's inbox does not get the whole kitchen.

Liking the job does not cancel Sunday. I had to stop treating it as a clue I was in the wrong place.

I do the washing up on Saturday now. Sunday night I was picking fights with plates that had done nothing.

The 2am meeting rehearsal — I write the actual agenda in a note and leave it. Half the time the meeting is fine and I wasted a night on a ghost.

Do you get it on long weekends too, or only when Monday is next? That told me it was the tilt, not the job.
