Why do I feel so behind in life when nothing in my week is actually on fire?
Nothing is on fire. Rent is paid. My manager said the report was fine. I even cooked twice this week. And still, Tuesday night, I lay on the floor of my room scrolling through people announcing promotions, engagements, and finally did the thing, and I felt late. Late to what, I could not say. There is no deadline on the fridge. There is just this low hum that I should be further along. When my life was actually chaotic — moving, a sick parent, a job hunt — I had a story for why I was behind. Now the story is gone and the feeling stayed. That is worse, somehow. Do you get this when things are calm? What do you do with the behind feeling when there is nothing practical to fix today?

The calm-week version is worse for me too. Chaos at least explains the lag. I started writing down three things the week actually contained, even boring ones, so Tuesday night had evidence.

I mute the announcement accounts on purpose. Not forever. Just when the hum starts. The fridge with no deadline is exactly it.

Late to what, though — a job title, a relationship, a flat? I had to name the comparison or it stayed as weather.

Cooking twice and paying rent is a week. I know that sounds like a poster. I still need reminding when I am on the floor with my phone.
