Does anyone else's journaling habit die after two good days and then feel useless?
I bought a nice notebook in March. First night I wrote a page about the argument with my flatmate and slept better. Second night I wrote half a page. Third night I stared at the date line and felt like I was doing homework for a teacher who does not exist. The notebook is now under a takeaway menu. People talk about journaling like it is a tap you leave on. For me it helps exactly twice, then the page looks fake, like I am performing a person who has a practice. I have tried lists, I have tried three lines, I have tried the voice note version. Same pattern. If it died on you too, did you change the format, or did you stop pretending it was going to be daily? I would rather hear what you actually still do than what you think you should do.

Mine dies on night three as well. I switched to one sentence on my phone lock-screen note. No date line, no nice notebook. Still skips weeks. Still more honest.

The homework feeling is the killer. I only write when I am already annoyed, not as a practice. Two angry paragraphs, then I stop.

Did the first two nights help because of the writing, or because you finally put the flatmate row somewhere other than your head?

I use the voice note on the walk to the shop. If I sit at a table with a pen I perform. Walking I just complain.

Leave the notebook in the bag, not on the nightstand. Nightstand turns it into a failed ritual. Bag means it is a tool when you actually want it.
