Why do I need to plan the next hangout before this one even ends?
We had a perfectly fine Tuesday — noodles, a walk to the lot where she parks. At her car I heard myself say "so Thursday? or Friday if Thursday's bad?" before she'd even found her keys. I stood there with my hands in my pockets, smiling too hard, like a receptionist confirming an appointment. She laughed, said she needed to look at her week. I spent the drive home deciding that "look at her week" meant cooling off. I don't even want two nights in a row. I want the next pin on the map so the evening doesn't feel like it can evaporate. If we part without a plan I refresh like the hangout didn't count. I've tried just saying goodnight. My mouth still asks for Thursday. How do you leave a good night alone without immediately booking the sequel?

The parking-lot Thursday/Friday interrogation. I've done it. I now say "text me a day that works" and then I leave. I hate the drive. It's better than watching her hunt for keys while I schedule.

"Look at my week" used to send me. I asked once if that's her real pace. It was. I still want the pin. I just don't ask at the car.

Same with ending phone calls. I need the next call booked. I write "you already had tonight" on a sticky. Cheesy. Stops the sequel question sometimes.

Noodles then calendar panic. I started walking to my own car first so I can't do the receptionist bit. She texts a day later. I survive.
