Why am I a different person with every friend group I hang out with?
Thursday I'm on a trivia team. I'm loud, I argue about movie years, I send voice notes on the walk home. Saturday I hike with a different group and I'm the quiet one who points at birds and barely talks on the trail. I have videos of both. Same face, two voices. If you only knew one group you'd swear you had me figured out. I don't sit down and choose it. The trivia people expect a certain energy and I fill it. The hike people like space and I shrink to fit. Later I wonder if I'm fake in one of them, or both. There's no overlap. I have never brought a trivia friend on a hike. Part of me is scared they'd meet and I'd have to pick a version in real time. Is this just having different friends, or is it a problem that I don't have one default personality? I like both groups. I just don't know which one I'd be if nobody was watching.

Trivia-loud and trail-quiet. I have a bar group and a board-game group and they would not recognize each other.

I accidentally mixed two groups at a birthday. I went mute for twenty minutes. So yeah, the fear is real.

If you were alone on that trail, would you still be quiet, or is the quiet for them?
