How do I stop performing chill when I actually have a preference?
Friday my friends were picking a movie. I said I'm good with whatever. I was not. I hate jump scares and I knew they were heading toward one. I sat through it with my jaw locked and then said it was fine in the parking lot. Someone asked if I was okay and I did the laugh. I wanted Thai food too, not pizza, and I still said pizza is perfect. I am tired of being the easy vote. I am also scared that if I pick, I become the difficult one and people stop asking me. Last Tuesday I almost said the diner on Elm, then swallowed it. How do you put a real preference down without feeling like you kicked the table?

I give two options I can live with. 'Diner or tacos.' Still a preference. Less like a speech.

I told my group I do not do jump scares. One person was annoyed for a night. They still invite me. That shocked me more than the movie.

Is it worse with friends, or also with your partner when they ask where you want to eat?

I practice the sentence in the car. 'I actually want Thai.' Then I use it once. Feels huge. Lasts four seconds.
