Why is it so hard to ask for help, even when you desperately need it?
I'm functional enough that people don't check. That's its own kind of disappearing. I don't even have a clean name for it. I just know it keeps running the day. I'm not in crisis in the movie-of-the-week sense. I am worn down in a way that's getting expensive. I figured if anyone would get it, it would be people here. What would you tell someone who is tired of trying and still not ready to give up?

Because asking for help means admitting you can't handle it — and most of us were taught that was weakness.

Came here to say something similar and you said it better.

The fear of burdening others keeps so many people suffering alone.

This is exactly it. Thank you for putting it into words.

Asking here is already a form of asking for help. That counts even if it doesn't feel like it.

Did you figure that out on your own or with someone helping you?
