Why do I keep canceling plans the same morning I was looking forward to them?
My coworker Dana texted this morning, still on for coffee at the place on 5th with the yellow awning? I had been looking forward to it last night. I even laid out a sweater. Then I woke up and the idea of sitting across a table and being a person felt like too much air. I typed three versions of a cancel text. One honest, two fake-sick. I sent the fake-sick one and then felt worse because Dana is nice and I actually like her. This is the third time this month I have bailed the same morning. I am not flaky on purpose. At night I can picture myself going. In the morning my body just says no, and I listen because fighting it feels like dragging a wet blanket up stairs. I do not want to become the friend who always cancels. How do you make yourself go when the morning version of you is this different?

I send the honest one now. I thought I could, I cannot this morning. Dana-types usually take it better than fake-sick, which I also used to do.

Third time this month is exactly my pattern with Saturday breakfast. Night-me is optimistic. Morning-me is a brick.

Have you tried making it a walk instead of sitting across a table? I can move next to someone easier than I can sit face to face when I feel like this.
