Why do I isolate all weekend and then feel even worse for doing it?
I left three unread texts from my sister since Friday. I told myself I would reply after I felt more like a person. It is Monday and I still have not. The weekend looked like this: curtains half-closed, same sweatshirt, a lot of standing in the kitchen not starting anything. I thought being alone would rest me. It did the opposite. By Sunday night I felt more brittle, not less, and then I was ashamed of the unread bubble, which made me open the thread, stare at it, and lock the phone again. She is not even asking for much. One of them is a photo of her dog on the couch. I miss her and I still cannot type hi. Has anyone else done this exact loop, hide then feel worse, and how do you break it without a big conversation you do not have the words for?

I send a voice note now instead of a text. Ten seconds of saw the dog, brain is mush, love you. She would rather have the mush than the silence.

Same loop. I hide, then the hiding becomes the thing I am hiding. The dog photo sitting unread would eat me alive too.

Could you react to the photo with just the little heart and nothing else? I started doing that as a bridge. Not a conversation. A tap.

I put text sis on a sticky on the kettle. I still ignore it sometimes. On the days I do not, it is because the kettle is already in my hand.
