Why does closeness feel itchy the Monday after a really good weekend?
We had a good weekend. Cooked, walked to the bookstore, she slept with her foot hooked over my ankle. Sunday night I was the one who said stay. Monday morning she made coffee in my kitchen like it was normal and something in my chest went tight, like the room got smaller even though nothing had happened. I found myself picking at little things — the way she left the spoon on the counter, how long she stayed after her train. I wanted her gone and I also didn't want her to leave. By lunch I had already been shorter in texts than I meant to be. It's always after the nice stretch, not during a fight. The closeness itself starts to itch. I don't want to wreck a good weekend on a Monday. What do you do with that urge to create distance right after it felt easy?

The foot over the ankle and then Monday coffee is exactly when I start finding the apartment too small. I used to pick a fight about dishes. Now I walk around the block and come back.

Good Saturday, itchy Monday. I tell her "I need an hour to reset, not because you did anything" which still sounds weird but she stopped taking the short texts personally.

Do you actually want space or do you want the weekend feeling to stay and the tightness is fear it'll disappear?

I do Monday laundry alone on purpose so there's a built-in hour. Ugly solution. Better than the spoon comments.
